Oriental training

The long awaited picture of me in a uniform:

I’ll do you one better, here’s a group of uniforms:

Hannah, Alaina, Camille, Minju, Me, Caitlin, French guy I don’t really know he kind of just popped into the picture.

And what’s better than group? A swarm.

Yesterday was orientation. It involved a lot of performances, learning about Thai culture (I ate a bug, it was already dead and was intended to be eaten), and me coming to the realization that the Thai language is going to kick my ass.

Part of orientation also involved making krathongs out of styrofoam, flowers, and leaves for the Loy Krathong festival in November (a.k.a. the floating lanterns scene from the movie Tangled).

Me, sending a poorly constructed krathong down the river.

I feel like Moses’ mother, sending her sweet little prophecy baby boy down the Nile river in this picture. So serene.

I have provided some visuals of the orientation experience.

Sawadee ka!

  1. […] Right off the bat I’d like to acknowledge how efficient Sookmyung is compared to Rangsit. Upon arriving we were given an informational packet and an itinerary: academic info session, campus tour, course registration. When the info session ran a little long, rather than pushing everything back we moved on to the tour and had the packet to refer to for the rest of the info. I’d like to think it’s because it’s a women’s university. It’s the female mind being intuitive and forward-thinking enough to construct an orientation schedule with flexibility. #thefutureisfemale. Though there wasn’t any teacher entertainment… […]
